Call for Rapid passage of ‘Tobacco Cultivation Control Policy’
Discussion meeting on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day 2022 on 31 May 2022, Tuesday, 11 a.m. at Nasrul Hamid Milanayatan, Dhaka Reporters Unity.
National Professor Independence Medallist, President of the “Diabetic Association of Bangladesh’’ (BADAS) Dr. AK Azad Khan was the Chief Guest of the program.
Heroic freedom fighter Professor. Aruparatan Chowdhury presided over the presentation of the main article. In the light of the discussion MANAS highlighted the following Recommendations:
- 1) Rapid passage of ‘Tobacco Cultivation Control Policy’ to protect agricultural land and environment;
- 2) Government initiatives should be taken to motivate the farmers to cultivate alternative crops of tobacco.
- 3) 25% duty on tobacco leaf exports should be re-imposed;
- 4) Disqualification of the Tobacco Company for the National Medal for Honorable Prime Minister’s Tree Planting;
- 5) To prohibit the ‘CSR’ program of tobacco companies by amending the Tobacco Control Act;
- 6) To formulate ‘National Tobacco Control Program’
- 7) Withdraw 9.49% of Government shares and officers from BATB
