Press Conference: World no Tobacco Day 2022

May 31 is World No Tobacco Day. The theme of this year is “Tobacco-Free Environment, Healthy Bangladesh”.

To mark the day, a press conference was organized by Manas today (May 30, 2022) at 11 am in the VIP Lounge of the National Press Club.

Manas’s founding President Heroic Freedom Fighter Professor Dr. Aruparatan Chowdhury presented and presided over the press conference. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Sharfuddin Ahmed was present as the Chief guest. 

Professor Dr. Md. Sharfuddin Ahmed said laws have been enacted in the country to reduce the damage caused by tobacco. The Hon’ble Prime Minister has declared to build ‘Tobacco-Free Bangladesh’ by 2040. He also called upon all to work together to implement his declaration.

 Also speaking were Ferdous Wahid, General Secretary of MANAS, Matiur Rahman Talukder- Organizing Secretary of MANAS, Nasir Uddin Sheikh- Country Manager of Vital Strategies-Bangladesh, Sagufta Sultana- Director of Tobacco Control Project- Aid Foundation.

The press conference was attended by representatives of various media and anti-tobacco organizations.
