Need to Implement TC Law to Protect Women and Children from SHS
Ministry of Women and Children affair, Bangladesh Shishu Academy, MANAS and The Union jointly organized a meeting titled “Implementation of tobacco control laws to protect women and children from the effects of second-hand smoke” on 17 April 2022, at Seminar Hall of Bangladesh Shishu Academy. The seminar brought together all the departments of the Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs to discuss, review and implement the need to implement tobacco control laws to protect women and children from the harmful effects of second-hand smoke. In the light of the discussions at the meeting, following request had placed to Fazilatunnesa Indira State Minister of Women and Children Affairs., by Prof. Dr. ArupRatan Chowdhury, founder president of MANAS to issue a directive on the implementation of the ‘Smoking and Tobacco Use (Control) Act’.
Declare non-smoking zones in all offices under the Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs and issue official directions.
According to the Tobacco Control Act, non-smoking signage (abstain from smoking is a punishable offense) in visible places of all offices.
Issue instructions to stop spitting or drinking spit in all offices / office premises under the Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs to protect the health of children
Incorporate tobacco control activities (e.g., rally / anti-tobacco campaign on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day) among other activities of the departmental offices of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs.
To allocate additional budget for the Ministry / Department / Department of Co-operation for the purpose of combining tobacco control programs with other programs in the implementation of anti-tobacco awareness programs.
Collaborate with MANAS to support women and children in raising awareness about the dangers of tobacco.
